Diff Checker

Paste two versions of a text to see which lines were added or removed. Nothing is uploaded.

How to read the diff

Lines marked + (green) exist only in the Changed text. Lines marked - (red) exist only in the Original. Plain lines are the same in both. The two number columns show the line number in the original and in the changed text.

The result updates as you type, or press Compare. The chips above the result count added, removed and unchanged lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the comparison work?
It finds the longest common sequence of lines between the two texts. Lines only in the changed text show as added, and lines only in the original show as removed.
What does ignore whitespace do?
It treats lines as equal when they differ only in spaces, tabs or indentation, so reformatting does not show up as a change.
Does it compare word by word?
No. The comparison is by whole lines. A changed word shows as one removed line and one added line.
Is there a size limit?
Each side can have up to 5,000 lines. Larger inputs show a message instead of freezing your browser.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The comparison runs in your browser and nothing is stored or uploaded.
