DNS Lookup

Look up DNS records, compare resolvers, find a hostname for an IP or read domain registration data.

DNS Record Lookup

Look up DNS records (A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, NS, TXT, SOA, CAA) for any domain. See IP addresses, mail servers and TXT records.

How to use it

  1. Choose a tab: DNS Lookup, DNS Propagation, Reverse DNS or WHOIS Lookup.
  2. Enter a domain name or, for reverse DNS, an IP address.
  3. Pick a record type where the tab offers one, then run the lookup.

After you change a record, old answers can stay cached until the record TTL runs out. Compare both resolvers to see whether the change has reached them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the queries go?
Lookups and reverse lookups go to Cloudflare DNS over HTTPS (cloudflare-dns.com). The propagation tab also queries Google (dns.google). The WHOIS tab queries rdap.org. The domain or IP you enter is sent to those services.
Which record types are supported?
A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, NS, TXT, SOA and CAA.
What does the propagation tab show?
The answers from Cloudflare and Google side by side. It compares two public resolvers, not every DNS server worldwide, so a match does not prove that all resolvers have updated.
What is reverse DNS?
A PTR lookup that returns the hostname registered for an IPv4 or IPv6 address.
Why is WHOIS data missing or short?
The WHOIS tab reads RDAP data. Some registries do not publish RDAP, and many hide personal contact details.
Can I share a result?
Yes. The page address updates with your query, so you can copy the link.
